You know (and probably love) Sleepy Time tea, but essential oils and herbal tinctures use a higher concentration of herbs, allowing you to see results quicker. We’ve pulled together 2 recipes for you: an essential oil and a tincture. Get out those DIY skills and let’s get you sleeping better.
1 – Oil on a Cotton Ball (Essential Oils)
This one is really easy. Add a drop of roman chamomile oil or lavender oil to a cotton ball and place it near your pillow or on your bedside table. Make this a daily routine and you’ll see you drift off to a peaceful, deeper sleep much quicker.
Chamomile and lavender oil are known to safely help calm your nerves, relieve anxiety and restlessness and improves your ability to sleep.
2 – Valerian Root Tonic (Tea Tincture)
Put 1 tsp. of dried valerian root in a cup and pour it in 1 cup of boiling water. Allow the herb to steep for 10 minutes before drinking.
Valerian has been a staple in the world of natural medicine for thousands of years. It’s been known to calm nerves, regulate heart rhythms, improve breathing and establish restful and healthy sleep patterns.
You should speak to your doctor before using any herbal remedy.
A few people have a paradoxical reaction to valerian root (makes them feel anxious). If this is your reaction, you can make your tincture out of another herb such as chamomile.
